A Brief History of Dinosaurs

Humans have always excited by dinosaurs due to their various species and sizes. They are no longer in existence but their presence is manifested nowadays in museums and movies. Dinosaurs appeared on earth about 225 million years ago and remained on earth for over one hundred million years. Some dinosaurs were carnivores that eat meat but most were herbivores. The dinosaurs existed in Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic period.


The Triassic period knew some genera of dinosaurs like Coeophysis who is one of the oldest well-known dinosaurs with its double hinged lower jaw and mouth full of sharp teeth. Plateosaurus is herbivore, 9 meter long and 4 meter tall, and weigh about 4 tones. Plateosaurus is a long-necked plant-eater from the late Triassic period.


At the end of Triassic period, many species of dinosaurs extincted. The reptiles were dominant during the Jurassic period which lasted 30 million years and this age is known as “The Age of Dinosaurs”


The Allosaurus was a meat eater who better known as the different lizard.  The Allosaurus was about 40 feet long that scared many other dinosaurs at that period.


Apatosaurus is herbivore with its colossal size, it was formerly known as Brontosaurus. its head was too small  compared to its enormous body. The bird Archeoptyx had similar characteristics of a dinosaur. The Diplodocus was one of the longest animals with 90 feet long. Mamenchisaurus dinosaur has a long neck of about 46 feet. Stegosaurus had a gargantuan body of three ton and a brain with a size of a walnut.


The growth of dinosaurs was full blown during the Cretaceous period. It is the time when some unique dinosaurs were on the earth. Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Parasaurolophus, Carnotaurus Anatosaurus, Monoclonius, Tarbosaurus Gallimimus Corythosaurus, Albertosaurus, were some the dinosaurs that lived in the Cretaceous Period. The end of this period marked the disappearance of dinosaurs from this earth completely.
