If you are not happy or successful is it your own fault? Below are six steps that are a necessary for self-improvement. There are no shortcuts and they must be accomplished in order. The most effective tool to aid individuals in leaving the old harmful behaviors is Manualized Cognitive Restructuring . Cognitive restructuring is capable of helping people defeat thinking errors and behaviors.
One of the main psychological dissimilarities between humans and animals is that humans have the ability to be self aware. That is, they know how to see and accept their faults and limitations. With self awareness humans have the ability to improve and change their lives. Changing habits, values and behavior is not easy. For instance, if you want to change a hardened criminal into a law abiding citizen the change must come from within. Criminals would have to accept responsibility for their behavior. If they continue to live in denial they will never change. To be successful with criminals, you must first help them become self-aware. This making them aware" process is called reality therapy. You cant force people to change, however, you can force them to become self-aware. Abide by the following steps to make a change. There are no shortcuts.
Step #1- AWARENESS Self-awareness is the very first step in changing who you are. You must accept your shortcomings. You cannot change without becoming self-aware.
Step #2- DESIRE If you dont desire to change, you wont. You have agency and, therefore, cannot be compelled. It's completely up to you; it is your choice. No desire,no change.
Step #3- ATTITUDE If you are aware of your shortcomings and want to change you will automatically elevate your attitude. It is your choice.
Step #4- SKILL Self-awareness, desire and a positive attitude are not quite enough; you must also develop the skills and knowledge of how to change, wanting to is not enough.
Step #5- BEHAVIOR Perfect steps one through four and you are prepared physically to do what's required. Do it for 90 days and it'll be a habit. Do it for one year and they will become a part of you.
Step #6- SUBCONCIOUS As soon as you acquire a habit, it becomes automatic. You dont even have to think about it anymore; you've changed. Congratulations!
Keep doing what you've always done and you'll keep getting what you've always gotten. If you want to change the outcome, you have to change what you've been doing in the past. The primary step in changing bad habits is to defeat denial, bad scripting and faulty thinking This can only be accomplished by the above six-steps to change.
