Is Your Baby Or Kid Snoring?
When many of us think of snoring problems, we tend to associate adults and snoring. However, snoring is common with kids and babies. Snoring is not completely dangerous, but the severity, variations of the causes will tell you if a specialist should be brought in to study their snoring patterns and the child's overall condition. In general, regular snoring is caused by the vibrations of soft tissues in the vicinity of the area that connects at the back of the nose and throat. The loudness of snoring is controlled by how much or how little air directly passes through your child's air passage.
After studying snoring in children, it is statistically found that 1 in 3 of them are snoring due to sever breathing issues, which is a concern. Usually, the snoring is from a respiratory infection, common allergies, or just a stuffy nose. It is the rarer of cases that childhood sleep apnea will settle in for causing a serious case of concern that needs the advice of a specialist. Babies and children's' throat muscles commonly relax during sleep, but sometimes these muscles can become too relaxed and the airway then narrows, becoming so obstructed that sufficient amount of air cannot pass through causing discomfort.
These are serious snoring issues that need to be discussed with a pediatric specialist. But children who occasionally snore, there are ways to help without a doctor's visit. With babies, it is important to make sure and keep their nose passages clear. Since babies can not blow their nose as we do, there are small flexible plastic bulb syringes that will suction out the baby's nose for better air flow. Continued problem demands a pediatric doctor, if your baby is under 2 years of age. But if your child is 2 and up, there are several other options in solving minor snoring issues.
If your child is snoring a lot, there are specially made memory foam pillows that can be purchased in children's sizes to help keep their head in a better breathing position throughout the night.
There are also homeopathic or herbal remedies that safely reduce snoring in children. Some of these products dissolve quickly under the child's tongue and some will be in liquid form. Salt water nasal drops are widely available to help clear passage ways. Humidifiers are wonderful for the youngest to the oldest, and are great for adding moisture into the air for better breathing while sleeping.
There are also certain natural and medication based menthols specially made for the humidifier. Depending on the child's age, nasal strips, homeopathic nasal sprays and all-natural throat sprays are safe options to use.
Just as adults, children too can have snoring problems directly related to being over weight. Daily exercise and better eating habits will help and can even fully eliminate your child's snoring.
