Diabetes Information-confessions Of A Type 2 Diabetic-part One

I haven't written about diabetes in a few weeks and kind of got stuck on where to go and how to there for my next article. After this brief hiatus I have decided to try and personalize the travails of the disease in the hopes of connecting with more people.

Of course at this point I have no idea where this will go. If you don't start, someone once said, you'll never get there! Let the confessing begin.


As of this writing on March 6, 2008 I have written 34 articles on diabetes and started a website on the subject all with the hopes of helping folks who have diabetes or are on the road to getting it.

It has brought me: a great deal of satisfaction trying to help people with the disease; a number 8 ranking in the country in terms of diabetes articles written-whoopee!; and a certain amount of frustration because I have this feeling that what I do isn't making a dent. The struggle is engaged. The war is on!

For those who don't know Diabetes is a disease that affects 7% or 21 Million Americans and claims 240 million victims worldwide. Nearly 96% all diabetics are type 2 so most of my information is geared to them-kind of a diabetic bias. It is one of the fastest growing diseases in the world. There are another 14 million Americans who have it and don't even know it.

It is a lifestyle disease and as such it can be avoided. I wasn't lucky enough to fall into that category. Once you have it you OWN IT. There is no cure despite claims to the contrary!! Once you own it the best you can do is control it or IT WILL KILL YOU in many different ways.

The physical aspects of the disease are well documented. We'll cover those. The mental side is much less discussed-we'll get into that as well.

So hang with me folks. If we can help a few of you out I am a happy camper. We'll see how this goes. Maybe once a week will do it-maybe more often.
