Mobile Phone Insurance Guide

Mobile phone technology has advanced rapidly over recent years, with their functionality evolving to encompass a broad range of different technologies.

Today's mobile phones are so much more than just phones. In fact, the name no longer does justice to what today's mobile devices are capable of. They have become more like handheld computers, easily capable of playing videos, music and surfing the internet.

It comes as no surprise that these cutting edge mobile phones come with a hefty price tag. And, because of their small size, losing or damaging them is common place; it's therefore a good idea to take out some form of insurance.

There are two insurance options available: You can either get insurance from your network or you can take out cover from an independent insurance provider. There are advantages and disadvantages to both options, so the key is to find the best deal that suits your needs and also your budget.

Taking out insurance with your network is probably the most common and straightforward way of insuring your phone. It has the advantage of placing all costs under the one umbrella and in the event of anything happening to your phone, a replacement can be supplied in a relatively short time.

The price of mobile phone insurance ranges from between £25 to £100 per year. Also, it's worthwhile checking the small print to see exactly what your insurance covers. Things to look for include:

• Loss or accidental damage

• Theft

• European cover – this covers the phone if it is lost or stolen in the EU

• Unauthorised calls

• Water damage
