Everyone accumulates things over time. For sentimental reasons, or just keeping the items just in case they might need it for another day. If you are one who tends to keep and accumulate stuff, you might consider holding a garage sale to get rid of those things, and earn some money in the process.
A garage sale goes by a lot of other names, like yard sale or flea market. But it all means the same thing. So what is a garage sale? It's the situation where people selling what they deem as junk and old stuff, to people who think the items are great stuff.
But before you start on holding a garage sale, first thing you need to do is to find out if you are actually allowed to hold one in your particular residence. Many authorities do not allow garage sales, or they might impose a fee for authorization. So before you get started, do a check with your local authorities to see if you need a permit. After you have done that, it's time to get started.
Next, you need to make a list of the items you wish to sell off. Things that you have not used for a long time could be your first priority to get it sold. Make a search through your entire house. Examples of typical garage sale items are furniture, silverware, television sets, CDs, household tools and toys. Once you have determined a particular item to be put up for the garage sale, attach a price tag to it. By pricing the items now, you will be able to save a lot of answering to customers who will be asking about items.
You need a little publicity for your garage sale. Else how would you get customers? You can print flyers and, with permission from store owners, leave the flyers there. Place signs at prominent places near to the location of the garage sale and pass the news by word-of-mouth. Place a small advertisement in the local newspaper or even advertise online via online classified sites (e.g. sites like Ablewise.com have high traffic, which will enable a lot of people to see and know about your sale). Make your garage sale known to as many people as possible.
Finally, after your garage sale, make sure you remove all the signs and publicity media you have utilized. You would not want people coming to your house after the sale is over. Most of all, enjoy holding your garage sale. Have fun!
